Description for Counselor Position

Currently Rising Appalachia operates Rising Appalachian Warriors (RAW) summer day camp for children ages 6-17 in Millfield, just 10 minutes outside of the city of Athens. 

Camp counselors provide programming in an outdoor setting Monday through Friday 8am-4pm with extra duties that may carry to 5pm dependent on aftercare registration. Employees will be outside, physically active for the duration of the workday.

Job Responsibilities

50% - Supervision of campers and creating an environment that is safe both physically and mentally for participants

25% - Willingness to play hard and interact with campers in a leadership role.

20% - Delivering programs centered around sustainability, environmental education, the arts, and citizenship within a community.

5% - Maintenance of equipment and grounds. Ensuring a clean and safe environment for campers and other staff.

Requirements

All staff that will be in contact with children or on the camp premises must be able to pass an Ohio and FBI criminal background check and fingerprinting. 

Must be able to be outside engaging in physical activity for over 7 hours per day, rain or shine.

Previous experience in childcare preferred but not required. 

Willingness to learn, to teach, and to be a positive influence in the lives of children.

Compensation

Counselor positions start at $15/hour during the 9 weeks of summer camp operation, plus bonus opportunities throughout the summer.
