Meet the Staff
Weston Lombard is the co-founder of RAW and the owner of Solid Ground Farm. Inspired by his work as a camp counselor in a woodland sanctuary as a teenager, Weston has devoted himself to his interests in sustainable agriculture, community economic development, outdoor adventure and education. A graduate of OU's College of Business, he Directed Ohio Brew Week for several years, has worked as an organizer for the Ohio Pawpaw Festival for the last decade and currently teaches Sustainable Resource Management at Hocking College and manages an experimental agroforestry site. He is a husband, father of two, and an amateur ninja.
Interim Executive Director
Kent Orr is the Interim Executive Director of Rising Appalachia. Since 2009 he has worked with children in non-profit and private camps in Texas, California, and Ohio. Born and bred in Dallas, he has become enamored with living in a place with four seasons and appreciable amounts of rain. His favorite flower is the ever beautiful Trillium, and there is nothing better than a handful of black cherries on a cool summer evening. In his spare time you can find him pondering why cats meow, and in the off season he will be working towards his Masters in Recreation Studies.
Leisha is a current senior at Ohio University working towards her bachelors in Recreation Management. She has always had a passion for children that stems from her experience as a swim instructor back home in Cambridge Ohio. Most recently she has worked as a Lead Teacher at the Athens Community Center before becoming a part of Rising Appalachia. Her knack for organization and strong leadership skills make her an invaluable part of the Rising Appalachia team. In her spare time she gets after in on four-wheelers, pumps mad iron at the gym, and loves to get her hands dirty on the family farm. She’s also a real sucker for the color blue.
Darian is a self employed, full time mother. She has a knack for creating lamps, woodworking, crocheting , and thoroughly enjoys the time and care that goes into working her garden. She loves being outdoors, hiking, and learning about all the plentiful ways in which nature provides. She has a passion for bringing the wonder of the world to people of all ages through education and mentorship. She is most looking forward to camp as an opportunity to share in how special our earth is, and the opportunities within it. She wants to be an inspiration to all and help everyone, herself included, grow along the way.
Jordan is a devoted father and husband. Since attending school for aviation maintenance he has put his can do attitude and mechanical know how to work for self employment. He is always up for a challenge and happy to continuously learn. He loves being in the woods and hiking, gardening, animals, and learning more about what we eat. He is very passionate about helping people and young children. The earth provides, so let’s learn together!
Director of Development
Chloe is the Director of Development for Rising Appalachia. She recently earned her Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science and Sociology-Criminology from Ohio University. She is pursuing her Master’s of Public Administration at Ohio University in the fall. Additionally, Chloe has extensive experience working with high school students, parents, community members, and program alumni through OHIO Upward Bound, a college access program that serves low income and first-generation college students. She has a passion for education, which makes her particularly excited to join the RAW team. Outside of RAW, Chloe enjoys catering to her cat’s every need, exploring the ancestry and existence of Bigfoot, and protecting her enamel.
Communications and Marketing Manager
Meredith S. Jensen is the communication/marketing manager for Rising Appalachia and the "Science Lecture Girl/Yes, You Have to Learn Something This Summer Girl" for RAW Camp. She is a full-time creative, part-time faerie, freelance writer, and jack-of-all-trades. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, birding, hiking, arguing with her umbrella cockatoo, and serving as a volunteer naturalist for the State of Ohio. She's the super short counselor with the fishing hat, tattoos, and weird hair.
Jamie Betit has worked multiple seasons with RAW Camps specializing in teaching movement and exercise. When not at RAW Jamie runs his own business as a personal trainer. You can often find Jamie at camp teaching kids to play, exercise, and make positive lifestyle choices. In his spare time he enjoys the company of his two daughters and is an active member in the Athens community.
